As countries open up again, travel restrictions are fast-changing. Travelers should look into the current rules that apply to them for the destination they wish to visit (for example, requirements for a COVID test or possible quarantine, what documentation is required), and also for rules that apply to their return trip (for example, the need to quarantine after returning home).
Quarantine requirements
People entering the Federal Republic of Germany from a risk area are required to stay in quarantine for 10 days.
From November 22, Iceland is no longer considered a risk area. We recommend you check the status as things may change with short notice.
The names of countries considered risk areas are published on the website of the Robert Koch Institute.
More information (specifications regarding testing, quarantine, potential fines, etc.) on requirements for travelers from risk areas is available on the German Federal Ministry of Health website.
Digital registration on entry
Travelers who have visited a high-risk area in the last 10 days are required to stay in quarantine for 10 days after entry to Germany. These travelers must complete the Digital Registration on Entry so that the local health authority can check whether they are adhering to quarantine rules. They must be able to present proof of this registration when entering Germany.
